Elevation Station Preview: food CARt

May 21st, 2012 : : : :

Reinventing the street food experience is the dream of Localmotive, dedicated to serving made-from-scratch food with a menu emphasizing seasonal locally-sourced products. Localmotive is owned and operated by Omaha natives David Burr and Patrick Favara, and longtime Omaha resident David Scott.  Turning the dining experience inside-out, the restaurant comes to you, the dining room is your city, and the food is fantastic!

The menu for the elevATE reflects our own contemporary, urban street-food style.  Incorporating elements of the more traditional street food across the country, and the various ethnic enclaves in our own city, the menu was forged to create a run-away-train food experience.  The items will be quick, mobile, and transported to you.  To start, smooth and easy with a shooter of chilled soup. Second, accelerate a bit with a beef lengua skewer – simply put, it is their own version of meat-on-a-stick.  Last, at full throttle, Localmotive’s own culinary concept: the Rounder, merged with a classic street food item, the gyro.  All to create a street food experience like no other.

The design, inspired by these ideas, is realized by a central distribution hub and two long lines to carry the food CARts as they distribute the three-course dining experience to you.  The CARts will be controlled by the chef through a system of ropes and pulleys to create constant mechanical movement indicative of mobile food and the urban street food experience.  The materials selected for the station have been salvaged from other uses and will be returned to their original function or re-used for another purpose after the event.  The bench seating is designed from re-purposed palettes and sandbags indicative of food transportation.  “Food in motion” is the concept this team is exploring in this fun and innovative dining experience.

All aboard!
