FIERY, a collaboration between Dante and DeOld Andersen Architecture, is inspired by Dante’s idea of family-style dining; the gathering of Elevate guests for a mutual experience of sharing pizza made from locally-sourced ingredients, and beer from Lucky Bucket Brewing Company. A u-shaped table, ringed with seating and space for gathering allows for the sharing of fresh pizza and beer; the pizza prepared and cooked in Dante’s wood-fired mobile oven will be passed and shared among the guests.
Inspired by the artifice of road-side advertising (billboards, inflatables, awnings) and scaled for visibility of high-speed travel, guests will gather beneath a red and silver canopy of see-through welding curtain sheeting, and silver Aluminet fabric. Like the thinness of a billboard, an awning’s stretched-fabric frame, or an inflatable’s volume created by hot air, DAA is interested in the use of the artificial as a means to convey FIERY’S size. The red glow cast by the welding curtain, red painted tables, benches and framing, are meant to starkly contrast with the surrounding landscape allowing for a heightened awareness of the pavilion against the space of high-speed infrastructure.
The design team thinks of the structure as an inhabitable billboard which will create a space for the sharing of food, drink, and a heightened sensibility of the site.
